History World Capital of Salsa
The Salsa, with its roots in Cuba, Puerto Rico and New York have been involved in Colombia since its inception. With the advent of radio in 1929, Caleños began to identify with the Afro-Cuban rhythms, and their heirs seasoned with sauce, they would end up staying in memory and the body of at least 4 generations of Caleños, thanks to the CMQ, Radio Radio Progreso and Havana.
No matter that these genres were not born here, in fact, no genre has been in Cali, we have never had an original music born out of our guts, but it can be recognized in other regions of Colombia. Afro-Cuban rhythms, mediated by the radio, the album and film, arrived early, infected the following decades and were forever giving rise to a popular tradition, a recognized identity within and outside Colombia.
In the 50's, in Cali, lived and danced as "Guarachero." In 1957 appeared La Feria de Cali. La Pachanga, came to Cali with great force. Then came other rhythms such as Swing, The Boogie Woogie, the Foxtrot and Rock'nRoll. Damaso Perez Prado came to Cali for the first time in the early 60's, to Mambo dancers were joined by a Cali called "Amparo Arrebato" He liked her dancing and invited her to Mexico, but she refused.
in 1968 in exchange for Tito Puente, he risked bringing the fair to two rising stars: Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz, who were playing a new rhythm: "The Jala Jala." It was madness, from that moment the door was open for all stars of the Salsa. They secured a taste for Salseras downloads. While playing in the house "Matecaña" the track "Pump Chamber", were dancing to the same girl he met Perez Prado, were amazed by his skill and a year later homenajearían with a classic theme: "Amparo Arrebato"
Cali became a Mecca for Pachangueros, reveled in the "Aguelulos" (rumba juveniles) in the "Pana", the "Honka Monk" and the current club, "Chango" in Juanchito. Boogaloo, a native of New York rate and relatively slow, arrived in Cali in '69 and '70 LP's of 33 RPM, a nightclub DJ Caleño the "Village Game" accelerated to 45 RPM and this was great to be encouraged to interpret his feet and urged the same time to jump a little to carry out the various steps.
In the 70's come to Cali The Fania All Stars, counting among its stars the "Singer of the Singers" Hector Lavoe who came to live in Cali for 6 months. In 1974, Cuban politician and journalist José Pardo Llada created a Salsa Dance World Competition, where he delivered the first place and the fame of the Watusi and Mary Caleños, competing against Cubans and Puerto Ricans. Rolando La Serie, the great singer of "The Forty", participated as a juror.
In the 80's emerged the stereotype created by the radio celebrity and show business, and condensed the slogan: "CALI SALSA WORLD'S CAPITAL" cultural phenomenon that had been forming since 20 years ago not as a process of music creation and production, but as an activity linked to consumption as the proliferation of clubs, dance festivals, the Feria de Cali and foreign orchestras and national radio, a passion for salsa history, support were received from the Afro-Cuban music and his heirs, the emergence of some 100 orchestras salsa in Cali, thanks inter alia to the rise of drug trafficking, and of course as anywhere else on the planet is dancing Salsa as much Cali. Cali
