Daniel Santos Betancourt was born on February 5, 1916 in Santurce, San Juan de Puerto Rico. It is one of the greatest singers of the twentieth century Latin America, famous for his love of music, women and alcohol. Known as The Restless Anacobero and as Chief , the figure went beyond the man to myth.
son of a humble carpenter and a seamstress, had to work very young as a shoe to help support the family, like so many Puerto Ricans immigrated with his parents and siblings to New York in the late 1920's. With just fourteen he decided to become independent and started to make a living as a member of several musical groups, dedicated to liven up parties and celebrations.
During the thirties was part of the Lyric Trio and the Body Yumurí and trendy acted as Borinquen Social Club, The Chilean and Cuban Casino, in the latter met Pedro Flores, a crucial event in his career, the composer was amazed by her voice and recruited him for his famous quartet.
In the early forties rose to fame playing some of the best songs of the maestro Pedro Flores as Irresistible , The last farewell, Prisoner sea, Guaracha love, and especially Farewell, archipopular song during this time that he opened the U.S. market. In 1941 he was elected to replace Xavier Cugat singer Miguelito Valdés in front of his orchestra, but just had to leave to join the group to be called up by the U.S. military.

Daniel Santos had twelve children, eleven different women and lived his last years in Ocala, Florida, with his twelfth wife, Ana Rivera, where he died on November 27, 1992, victim of a heart attack. His remains rest in the Cemetery Santa Maria Magdalena de Pazzi to Old San Juan, near the Don Pedro Albizu Campos Maestro and composer Pedro Flores.
The inexorable time is running fast, but no matter how many years go by, the legacy of "The Boss" lingers in the memory and the repertoire of the most romantic singers of Afro-Latin American musical staff today.
